Haha i remember the Winter Dwarf rumor. In 2 hours it went from "Leave him alive for 10 mins to get a hat" to "Leave him alive for 10 mins and you get a mini pet,hat and 5 candy cane shards".
I reckon Anet had more fun with that than originally intended. Hopefully the same thing will happen this year
Theres also the fake weapons we have had (The IDS that months later actually made it into the game...and of course the famous Terror Shield that was rumoured to *only* drop from Dryders)

I know 2 people in pre who have bears, one of whom may have more than one bear, but they've got at least 2 or 3 level 15+'s. One of the bears is called fuzzy wuzzy

lol, fun thread.
my best story was about 2 years ago, my friends and I were getting together a gvg for our buddies guild and we ask one of there members whats the skills on his bar was (hes a warrior) and I immediately start correcting some stuff on the bar then ask him to bring res sig. to which he promptly responds "Whats that" I kindly explain what it was and where to get it (of course laughing in secrecy to my friends) and he adventures off to find res sig, we wait for about 20 minutes and he doesnt come back...so I guest another friend of mine to the guild and we start the gvg after about 2 hours or so we come back to the guild hall and see the warrior standing there, exclaiming how excited he was he finally found res sig.

I once was told that to get on the other side where the guards are in Heroes Ascent, all you had to do was win halls and u could choose whether to keep playing or get on the other side.
(Without knowing it was a simple glitch.)

And yet, what I said is still true - that it goes from possible to impossible based on different updates and is hard to tell if what people are currently saying is true or not.
You will note the "possible" part - as such I very well know one has been able to do it and as far as I understand you can currently do so. Then again the next update may change it (again) and we are back to arguing an "urban legend" - at least in the sense of the OP uses the term.
Sheesh, I can't believe that many people failed to see the "possible" part and jumped on me (well, I suppose this is the internet after all).

I've seen more than a few pet bears myself after having spent 10 months in pre with a monk going for LDOA. You nave to partner with all kinds of people during that process to get from lvl 11-16 and a lot of them have bears. It is one of the leet things to have in pre, I suppose....

I tried selling a req 10 weapon to someone and he WOULD NOT buy it because it wasn't req 12, because he didn't understand that 'having 12 attrib. points increases damage' was different from the req... D< I tried to explain it to him... but to no avail.

No, we all saw the word "possible". And we all know (other than you, I guess?) that's it's like, always been possible to do (except maybe at some time in the far past, after which it was never impossible to do again). It doesn't randomly change with updates. Although I guess you could consider that a rumor which might become an urban legend.
So, what you said was false. Sorry. That's the way the cookie crumbles.

There was a fairly long period of time between when Anet removed the older methods of getting them and the newer methods were found - thus for a period of time it was impossible.

That there is a certain limit on A.net servers that prevents people from playing AB/FA maps (its just not true people, why in the world would a.net have enough server space to run like 100 RA, TA, HA, and GvG games at any given time, and be unable to run more then 5 ABs at once?). I HATE that rumor.
